ANNOUNCEMENTS
Annual Reports for the 2011-12 church year are due.
Menno-Hof Singspiration – Today, 4:45 PM – A cappella singing, ice cream, pretzels and more singing – Bring lawn chairs for seating.  Rain location:  Farmstead Inn pavilion.
Once again it is time for the Relief Sale and Locust Grove’s involvement as servers at the pancake breakfast.  It is a great opportunity to do something as a family.  Even kids as young as 8-10 can help.  If serving pancakes isn’t your thing, perhaps you could volunteer to watch someone’s children while their parents serve.  Sign up at the Relief Sale table.
The MCC Relief Sale is recruiting volunteers who can assist with their new event- a silent auction.  Areas of work needing help are:  marketing, donor communications, event logistics, donation management, website support, technical support, etc.  They are also seeking donations of unique items or services for the silent auction.  Items should be new and worth at least $25.  If you are interested in helping, call 574-971-8952.
Church office hours will vary Sept. 13-Oct. 5.

The following is a story from our Moldova trip in 2011:
Meet Natasha.  Skin so white it looks like fine porcelain.  Beautiful eyes seem almost too large for her face.  And a small twisted body.  We go up the stairs, through the two metal, clanging doors and into the apartment where she lives with her family.  Then through another doorway into Natasha’s room.  She is lying in the bed.  No one else is in the room.  And she is just staring.  The loving Christian nurse who is our guide sees her several times per week.  She has explained to us that Natasha has been like this since she got immunizations at nine months of age.  She is now in her late teens, and her limbs become more contractured as time goes on.  The nurse tells us that sometimes Natasha smiles at her and her family members, but most times there is no response.  As I stand beside her, I gently stroke and kiss her face and gnarled hands.  This must be a good day.  I feel so very blessed to see big smiles and quiet giggles! ~ Ramona King
